GENERAL INFORMATION

The appeal of mechanical shifting is undeniable. It never needs to be recharged. It doesn't shake loose. The shifts can both be felt and heard. This is the primary change between the Cervélo P5 Six Shimano Dura-Ace Bike and the Dura-Ace Di2. The two are almost identical save this difference, which means this is the lighter version. Not that the weight difference should worry you. The P5 Six is plenty light.

The Shimano Dura-Ace 9000 eleven-speed shifting is among the best in the market. The feel is light and positive, and the front derailleur geometry has been tweaked for a great feel. The DA parts are complemented with the best from Cervélo's partner companies. Rotor, which supplies the cranks, 3T, which builds the Cervélo-designed aerobar, and Magura, which builds the hydraulic rim brakes, have all worked with Cervélo in an effort to both improve their own product and Cervélo's.

The BBright is a product of Cervélo and Rotor. The 3D+ crank is the lightest, stiffest iteration thusfar. The Magura brakes are smaller, lighter, more powerful, and possess better modulation than just about anything on the market. They're pretty much maintenance-free as well. The Aduro bar/stem setup was designed by Cervélo in the wind-tunnel and then perfected by smart building. The setup comes with relatively few pieces, yet is incredibly fine-tunable. And the cables and hoses run through the bars to the stem, and into the frame without being exposed to the wind. The

The frame is one that is as obvious from the side as it is invisible to the wind. Cervélo built on their P4 platform and improved in several ways. All of them were about better-tuning the airflow around the frame and rider. Just as the rear wheel runs close to the frame, so does the front wheel get a wrap from the fork and down tube. The head tube and seat tube's trailing edges have been extended to smooth out the airflow. And that BBright bottom bracket plays its part, too in helping provide a great space for aero shaping.

The BBright works on more levels. It helps stiffen up the bike at the bottom bracket in the same way that the tapered head tube improves torsional stiffness at the front end. But these weren't employed to make the P5 ride like a board. They are part of ride-tuning, which Cervélo did by eliminating material in strategic places to make the bike ride more comfortably. This is their best-ever riding time trial bike for these reasons.

And a great ride is useless without a great fit. Cervélo both worked on determining their stack and reach dimensions to make sure that more people could fit on the P5 comfortably.
